Ian’s Skulls / Buying guide

How to choose a skull for your wall

The right piece starts with your wall space, your budget and the silhouette you like. Use this guide alongside our actual inventory photos, then ask Jeff or Ian about the exact specimen.

Start with the space, then choose the horns

Measure the usable width and height of the wall. Allow room around the horns, nearby lights, doorways and furniture. A group photograph makes comparison easier, but it is not a scale drawing: ask for the full horn-tip-to-horn-tip width and overall height of your chosen skull before committing.

A longhorn skull can suit a wide wall above a fireplace or reception area. Bison skulls have a different silhouette, while the yak collection offers sweeping dark horns. Compare the actual shapes rather than assuming every specimen in a species has the same size.

Compare the finish and condition

Natural bone colour, horn shape and visible wear vary between pieces. Ask for close-ups of the face, horn tips and back. Our Page 3 longhorns are explicitly offered with some damage; discuss that damage before buying. For painted and decorated skulls, request a closer look at the artwork and finish too.

Choose a budget using the individual price

The collection displays prices in Canadian dollars. Group headings help you browse, but the page and letter identify the specific piece and its price. A “price on request” entry needs a quote. Pickup or delivery options and any additional costs are agreed directly before purchase.

Plan mounting before bringing it home

Ask for the weight and details of any mounting attachment on the actual piece. Wall materials and anchors vary; have a suitable installer assess the support where needed. Do not assume mounting hardware or installation is included. Confirm those details with Jeff or Ian.

Send one clear inquiry

Include the photo page and letter, your available wall dimensions, location and preferred budget. For example: “I found Page 2, piece B on iansskulls.com. Could you send its dimensions, weight and close-up photos, and confirm the price and pickup options?”
